Here are some questions to ask to begin the process of conducting observations.
- Have the type of observation methods already been identified?
- Is there already a list of humans to observe, or does one need to be created?
- What tools are available or needed to conduct observations?
- Who can provide moderation, facilitation, and scripting for interviews, if needed?
- Will direct observations be conducted in person or remote?

Observations in the ROAMER Model are intended to serve the purpose of driving focus back to the humans who are affected by the new or improved solution. Observation can take the form of actively watching humans in a facilitated circumstance during an experience, or it can be looking for changes in analytics patterns as the result of making changes in an experience.
The key to observation is that whether it is conducted by watching two leadership groups interact, watching a customer during a restaurant experience, or sitting with someone to watch them perform a business activity, the human affected should be the focus of the observation.
